What kind of driver are you when you take a trip? How to you go about getting from your home to a place you’ve never been before? In my experience there’s two kinds of people: map people and GPS people, and they are very different. Personally, I’m more of a map person, while my wife prefers GPS. But regardless of your preferred method, to make a journey you need a plan. The same goes with your life. You need principles that will guide you on how to make decisions and what direction you should go.
God’s Word is the only source of true, life-giving, direction-guiding principles by which we can live our lives.
Biblical Principles keep your life on track.
God says in Psalm 119:9 “How can a young man [person] keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” If you want to be clean, if you want to have your life right, if you want peace, then apply the word of God to your life. Principles like lusting over a woman is adultery of your heart, and being careful what you see and listen to because that affects your heart and mind (Philippians 4:8) These aren’t restricting rules, they’re safety markers. They focus you away from hurtful things so you can enjoy the good things of life. Like a happy marriage, or being able to make jokes without wondering about double meanings.
Biblical Principles work in any situation.
2 Timothy 3:16 says “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” The Bible is applicable to all situations. Culture changes constantly but God’s principles never age. For example the book of Proverbs talks about not going into debt because the borrower is slave to the loaner. Sounds a bit like today’s world, don’t you think?
You may not realize it, but we all have people and circumstances that influence our decision making. Why not allow God to guide your life? Imagine the difference it will make when you know exactly how to react to a decision because you’ve already applied the scriptures to your heart!
